Chicago Pastry Chefs Welcome Top U.S. Talent

JMPurePastry presents the next edition of the Chicago Restaurant Pastry Competiton.

JMPurePastry gave Chicago its own pastry competition last year by introducing The Chicago Restaurant Pastry Competition. This was the first competition that spotlighted plated desserts and was filmed to broadcast worldwide to the pastry community. The professional content and creative filmic style struck a chord across the industry which was reinforced by winning an armful of awards; a Telly Award, two Communicator Awards, and two Hermes Awards.

The 2nd Edition of The Chicago Restaurant Pastry Competition is gearing up to start their fall filming. The filming will take place in September at The Chicago School of Mold Making, the design center for chefs located just outside of Chicago city limits. This year the competition was opened up to pastry chefs from all over the US, not just Chicago. A committee of highly regarded chefs and designers ranked the recipe submissions. The top four finalists selected to compete this year are:

Melissa Coppel
Jean-Marie Auboine Chocolatier
Las Vegas, Nevada

Chris Ford
Wit & Wisdom & PABU, LAMILL
Baltimore, Maryland

Thomas Raquel
Acadia Restaurant
Chicago, Illinois

Philip Speer
Uchi Restaurant
Austin and Houston, Texas

The Chefs will prepare a signature plated dessert as well as compete in a special challenge. Last year there was the forty ingredient Mystery Box Challenge. This year will introduce the Gelato Mystery Challenge. Pastry chefs will use unique molds and specialty ingredients from a secret pantry to prepare pre-desserts. These will be plated desserts with the central element being gelato!
“We’re very much looking forward to this year’s competition. We’re excited to host talented pastry chefs from all over the country.” says Chef Jimmy MacMillan Event coordinator. “We have a few tricks up our sleeves as well.”
The 2nd Edition of the Chicago Restaurant Pastry Competition will debut its trailer during the holidays. You can check out the 1st Chicago Restaurant Pastry Competition at www.JMPurePastry.com.
