The list of The World’s 50 Best Restaurants 2024, sponsored by S.Pellegrino & Acqua Panna, was revealed on 5th June in a live awards ceremony at Wynn Las Vegas. This 22nd edition features restaurants from 26 territories, 5 continents and 8 exciting new and re-entries.
The creation of Oriel Castro, Eduard Xatruch and Mateu Casañas, has reached the global gastronomic summit: Disfrutar in Barcelona is the hottest dining destination on the planet.
Xatruch said: “We want to dedicate this award to the gastronomy in our country, and to all the people who worked and keep working to build this marvellous profession.”
A lot will be made of the chef-owners’ shared status as alumni of the legendary El Bulli (which reached No.1 in The World’s 50 Best Restaurants a record-equalling five times), where the trio met and worked together from a young age, staying until the restaurant’s closure in 2011.

Parmesan frozen biscuit.
Marinated mushrooms vinegar with oyster.
Nixtamalized roquefort coulant with walnuts.

Much will no doubt be made of the chef-owners’ shared status as alumni of another Catalan restaurant, El Bulli, where the trio met and worked together in their formative professional years. For sure, Disfrutar is influenced by and pays homage to its prestigious forebear, but it has also written its own culinary language – one that mixes the playful with the profound, the deliberately discombobulating with the downright delicious.

At the restaurant, diners can choose between two parallel menus, both around 30 courses. First-timers will likely want to experience the Classic option, featuring the chefs’ favourite dishes from the last decade; the Festival menu meanwhile is the latest manifestation of the team’s unbounded creativity, always backed with meticulous culinary research.
Disfrutar is followed on The World’s 50 Best Restaurants 2024 ranking by another Spanish restaurant, Asador Etxebarri in Atxondo and Table by Bruno Verjus in Paris, respectively second and third, an unbeatable barbecue from a humble Basque chef (Victor Arguinzoniz) and a Parisian sensation helmed by eponymous self-taught chef.
Nina Métayer is the World’s Best Pastry Chef 2024

Her first Délicatisserie was an online patisserie that delivers the greatest hits of French confectionery and viennoiserie. Since then, she has also opened two physical Délicatisserie pastry shops in Paris. Now Nina Métayer is the The World’s Best Pastry Chef 2024. The award, sponsored by Sosa, rewards her talent with this mention: “Marrying picture-perfect French fare with cutting-edge technology”. In fact, Métayer adopts modern techniques to evolve classic sweet treats. For her award-winning rendition of the iconic galette des rois, she used a 3D printed silicone mould, designed herself, to top the creation with a perfect recreation of Notre Dame’s iconic circular window.
But she is named winner of The World’s Best Pastry Chef Award also for the sustainability as a core pillar of her operation. She is determined to prove French pastry creation doesn’t have to be synonymous with opulence. As creations are made to order, there is no wastage or spoiled products at the end of each day; each item is also delivered in zero-waste, plastic-free packaging.
