Passion – Hong Kong’s popular French-style patisserie, confiserie and boulangerie by trail blazing baker and entrepreneur Gerard Dubois – opens a brand new two-story flagship restaurant and café on Queen’s Road East in Wanchai.
From a 30-seat restaurant and cake shop in 1991 to a global pastry enterprise, Gérard Dubois is arguably one of the most entrepreneurial pastry chefs in Hong Kong. Passion is Dubois’ dream retail shop, putting his heart and soul into offering a consumer brand to the local market.
Expanding its food offerings to beyond a full-service restaurant, Passion Wanchai now serves everything from freshly made gelato to homemade casseroles, to chocolate, to pizza and much more. The new Passion brings to 7, the number of Passions to open in Hong Kong and Macau over the past 4 years. This latest store replaces its old Johnston Road location, bringing a much larger and dominant presence to the district where Passion has been popularly received by neighbouring residents and nearby businesses.
The new Passion in Wanchai is also the launch pad for several new “Passion” concepts. Les Glaces “Passion” serves gelato that’s handmade in the kitchen and served in cups ($36) or waffles ($38). Also new to the store is the chocolate slab counter where house-made chocolate is served by weight at HK$75 per 100 g. Chocolates include Ivoire 35%, Dulcey 32%, Caraibe 66%, Jivara 40%, Guanaja 70%, Tanori 64% and Caramelia 36%, available in 11 flavours. La Palette Passion – thin crust rectangular pizzas served on a wooden palette, with either savoury or sweet toppings – is also a new addition to the menu ranging in price from HK$58 to HK$78.
Customers enter on the ground floor where 30 seats are perfect for casual coffees and meetings. The ground floor also showcases the huge patisserie counter serving a full range of fresh mouth-watering pastries, cakes and desserts, alongside baskets filled to the brim with irresistible freshly baked breads.
Upstairs, the restaurant seats in impressive 125 where a full menu of hot dishes is served. Pizza lovers have the choice of either the thin crust Le Palette Passion rectangular pizzas or more traditional sour dough round pizzas, artisan pastas, and warming French casseroles served from Le Crueset pots. Passion also offers a huge variety of fresh sandwiches and salads, all perfectly portioned for lunches and dinners.
At the heart of Passion’s success are its partisserie, confiserie and boulangerie, and customers won’t be disappointed with the enormous selection on offer. Signature pieces include: Les Eclairons (delightful rectangular macaroons the size of two joined together) for HK$22 a piece; perfectly presented French pastries including mille-feuille, “Passion” Chocolat, and Mango Mont Blanc; and beautifully baked breads. Passion Wanchai brings together all the delicious aspects that make “Passion” a household brand, under one roof.
